The ninth annual Mattawan Lions Club Senior and Veteran Expo will be taking place Monday, May 12th at the Antwerp Township Activity Center. Sen. Tonya Schuitmaker, Rep. Aric Nesbitt, and Rep. Margaret O’Brien will be co-hosting the event that attracts visitors from all over Southwest Michigan. The Expo is free to the public and no pre-registration is required.
Over one hundred local businesses and organizations will participate in sharing some of the services they have to offer the senior and veteran population. Bronson Lakeview Hospital will have employees on hand to provide free health and wellness screenings. Seniors will be able to have their blood sugar, cholesterol, body mass and blood pressure checked by medical professionals. Vision and hearing tests will also be available.
“This event has continued to grow every year since it stated,” Sen. Schuitmaker said. “It is now one of the biggest events of its kind in Southwest Michigan. It’s a great opportunity for businesses and organizations to share their products and for seniors and veterans to see what kinds of services are available.”
Seniors and veterans who attend will receive a complimentary tote bag stuffed with useful items donated from generous sponsors. Door prizes provided by exhibitors will be given away throughout the event. A free lunch and beverages are also provided.
Rep. Nesbit discussed some of the benefits the expo brings to the community. “I always enjoy having the opportunity to meet with seniors who attend the expo. Not only is it a chance for us to provide them with the necessary information and resources regarding local products and services, but it is also an opportunity to have good conversations with our friends and neighbors.”
The location of the event means that many of the attendees live in western Kalamazoo County. Rep. O’Brien, who represents that area, added, “I have been honored to partner with Sen. Schuitmaker and Rep. Nesbitt in hosting this wonderful event the last several years. Our seniors and veterans are respected members of this community and the expo serves as an excellent resource for folks in the area to learn about the variety of services available to them. I look forward to participating in yet another successful expo this year”
Nearly one thousand seniors and veterans are expected to visit the expo this year. Transportation to and from the event will be available. The Expo runs from 9:00am – 1:00pm at the Antwerp Twp. Activity Center, 24821 Front St. in Mattawan. For more information, please visit www.seniorandveteranexpo.com or call 888-222-1769.
